Boston Terrier

The Tuxedo Troublemaker
Also Known As -
Boston Bull, Boston
Boston Terriers are friendly and lively dogs, known for their distinctive tuxedo-like markings and adaptable nature. They are good companions for families and apartment living.

Boston Terriers are small, well-balanced dogs known for their expressive eyes, tuxedo-like coat, and charming personalities. Compact but sturdy, they typically weigh between 10 to 25 pounds—with most around 15—and stand 15 to 17 inches tall at the shoulder. They have short tails, perky ears, and a smooth, square-shaped face with a short, wrinkle-free muzzle.

Originally bred in the late 1800s by crossing the now-extinct White English Terrier with the English Bulldog, the breed started out with fighting roots. But over generations, the Boston Terrier was refined into a friendly, people-loving companion. Despite their name, they’re not considered true terriers; the American Kennel Club classifies them in the Non-Sporting Group.

Boston Terriers are generally gentle and alert, with a playful streak and just enough spunk to keep life interesting. While they vary in temperament—some are more independent, others are full-on snugglers—most thrive on human connection and do well in homes with kids, seniors, and even other pets. They’re not excessive barkers, but they’ll speak up when something’s worth noticing.
