The American Eskimo Dog, often called the Eskie or American Spitz, was developed in the United States from German Spitz breeds, including the German Spitz, Japanese Spitz, and Keeshond. Despite the name, the breed has no direct connection to Eskimo culture.
Eskies come in three size varieties—standard, miniature, and toy—but all share a fluffy white coat, alert expression, and intelligent, playful temperament. They’re known for being excellent companion dogs and quick learners.
Average lifespan: 10–15 years
The American Eskimo Dog is dazzling, demanding, and delightful. With training, structure, and plenty of attention, they’ll reward you with devotion, brilliance, and the occasional barked monologue.
